heart2_sm.gif (1100 bytes)Note to CAP FOSTER PARENTSheart2_sm.gif (1100 bytes)

The shelter does NOT contact the foster parents about the majority of the animals that become ill. (Especially NOT Dogs that are over 25 pounds. - Most of the dogs over 25 pounds are put to sleep when they become sick.) If a foster parent likes a particular dog or cat and wants to make CERTAIN that animal is not put to sleep if it becomes ill,  you MUST phone or go by the shelter and place your name on the upper right hand corner of the animal's yellow laminated cage card and on the animal's paperwork.  If the animal becomes ill, the shelter will call you and you must promptly pick up the animal. (NOTE: There are a few(very few) cases when even animals with a foster parent are put to sleep)

Before placing your name with an animal, the shelter policy is to ask a senior staff person first. Also, if you place your name with an animal that is on the website, NOTIFY the Webmaster after you have listed your name as the animal's foster parent. (Most of the dogs and some of the cats on the website do NOT have a foster parent.  Normally if the animal has a foster parent, it will be indicated with the animal's information online.)

NOTE:  If you especially like an animal,
you may PLACE YOUR NAME WITH IT AS THEIR FOSTER.
The ONLY way a foster can protect a certain
animal is to put their name as foster on the cage card of that animal.
When placing your name on their yellow laminated cage card, your name should be on the upper right hand corner.
Write the word 'Foster' and then your name.   -   EXAMPLE:    Foster - Sue Jones
(If you are a NEW Foster Parent, also write your phone number under your name.)

Medium and large dogs also want to live!!!!
ALL 4 of the medium/large dogs shown below are alive today ONLY because
a foster parent put their name with them to be their foster parent!
Placing your name on their paperwork means that if the animal gets sick, then you
are called and you should promptly collect the animal, instead of the animal being put to sleep.

ALL 4 of the medium/large dogs shown above are alive today ONLY because
a foster parent put their name with them to be their foster parent!
NOTE: A list of sick dogs is provided or you will be shown sick animals from which to choose to foster.
These are NOT all of the sick animals but ONLY a few 'selected' animals.
(Most sick animals are put to sleep.  However you can protect an animal that you like by placing your name with that animal.)

heart2_sm.gif (1100 bytes)Thanks for Saving A Life by being a Foster Parent !heart2_sm.gif (1100 bytes)

If you are located a long distance from CAP
but still want to Help Save Animals,
Check with the Petsmart or Petco Store in your area
to find an organization that is located near you.
Most organizations have similar Foster Parent programs.
Make CERTAIN that they Spay or Neuter ALL animals BEFORE the animals
are adopted!!!  Some groups only make the adopters 'promise'  to spay or neuter!!!

It is not where you help  but that you help!
LIST of Houston Area Shelters

You MUST be an 'official' CAP Foster Parent

Zack - A 'large' dog....
ONLY alive because a foster parent put their name
on his paperwork to be his foster parent!
When Zack got sick at the shelter, his foster parent was called
because she had put her name of his information to be his foster parent.
His foster parent took care of him until he was well
and he then found a loving home with nice people!

Medium and Large dogs ALSO want a chance to LIVE !!!!

NOTE:  The animals posted on the 'Foster Needed' postings are NOT the only animals that may need a foster and empty cages in the sick room does NOT mean that there are no sick animals.  The vast majority of dogs over twenty pounds & also cats are NOT posted when they become ill. (They are put to sleep, referred to as 'PTS'You may place your name on the cage card and on the paperwork of an animal of 'your' choice, just let Bianca, Yvonne, Pam or BJ or another CAP employee know what you want to do. Most of the animals on the CAP website do NOT have a foster name listed and almost ALL of them will be PTS if/when they become sick.  Dogs   Cats
