Foster parents are welcome to email a photo of their foster animal to be placed on the CAP website.  BEFORE sending any photos, please carefully read the following information.  Thanks.

SUMMARY of information.
**Set your camera on the lowest  resolution setting before taking photos. This is VERY important.
**Send file in JPEG format ONLY.
**Size of file for each photo should
NOT exceed 100k bytes and NOT larger than 400 pixels in height.
**Send NO more than 2 photos of 'each' animal.
Normally one head and one body photo for dogs, and one photo for cats..
**
NAME your photo file with the name of the animal and their incoming number.
Example is Sophie_4286471_Head  and the other photo would be   Sophie_4286471_Body .
**Do
NOT send your 'text' as an attachment.
**Please send QUALITY photos the FIRST time and PLEASE do not say you will send better photos later.
UNLESS the animal has grown or changed in appearance.    Thanks.

Detailed Information:

1)   If the animal is staying with their Foster Parent, the foster parent MUST have an e-mail address. If the animal is at the shelter or does Not have a foster parent, then of course no e-mail address is needed. 'If' the animal is staying at the shelter OR at a Petsmart, a small white sticker MUST be placed on the upper left hand corner of the yellow laminated cage card with the words  'I'm Online'.  IF you have trouble locatng a small white sticker, ask either TOM(who works in the office side), or if it is Sunday, ask Susan a volunteer(She volunteers in the cat room) or ask Mary Hunt to direct you to the little white stickers.

2)   If in a foster home, please check e-mail at least every 48 hours.  (Even if you go 4 days with no response, you may receive an inquiry on day 5.)  When you receive an inquiry, respond immediately, and 'if' you think the person is a 'good match' for your foster animal, it is best to meet with them as soon as possible. (If you are arranging to meet with the prospective adopter, make sure you have their phone number.)
NOTE:  You represent the best interest of the animal therefore if you receive more than one inquiry you should give 'priority' to the inquiry which is most compatible with your foster and Not the person who wrote first.

 3)  Notify webmaster 'immediately' when animal is adopted OR if foster parent takes animal to the shelter to leave it 'permanently'.  Notify CAP webmaster, regardless if adoption is via the website or other means. If it was via the website, please state that fact and if possible give the first name of the person who adopted the animal.

 4)  If you are going to be out of touch for more than 4 days,  notify the webmaster.

(In the past there have been a few complaints from people who did not receive a reply from the foster parent. In these cases the foster parents were out of town.)

5) When e-mailing photos,  please follow these guidelines.
 a)  Photos should ONLY be sent in the JPEG format.
 b)  The 'total' size of the files you send should NOT be larger than 100k bytes.
If your camera has a resolution setting,  set your camera on the lowest resolution so the file will not be huge. (Pixel size for Height should be about 180 to 200.)
 c)  Do NOT send more than one head and one body shot of each foster.

(Exception: If you have a pair of animals that you wish to be adopted together,  try to get an 'extra' photo of them together. )
d.) Do NOT send your 'text' as an attachment.

ONLY send photos which are 'clear' and of 'good quality'.  A poor quality photo is not likely get any response.  If you are going to send in a photo,  make a cute one!
TIP: Get down low, at body level of animal to take the photo. Also have an uncluttered background.

6) Information about the foster animal that is needed.  (Keep it brief. unless they are Special Needs, then you might want to give more information.)
Name,  Incoming Number, Age, Sex, Breed, likes dogs or cats, what age persons can live in the household,  housetrained, spayed or neutered, quiet or playful and if a cat is it declawed. Include a couple of 'personal' facts, like if they enjoy sleeping on your lap, playing with certain toys, having their belly rubbed or  walks well on a leash.

Please include your day and evening phone numbers.  The numbers will NOT go online.

Try to get their photo online a week before they are ready for adoption.  The foster animal does Not need to be fully recovered to have their photos placed online since we can place a date saying at what time you 'estimate' them to be available.

Please send photos and text AT THE SAME TIME.

IMPORTANT:  'If' the animal is staying at the shelter, a small white sticker MUST be placed on the upper left hand corner of the yellow laminated cage card with the words  'I'm Online'.

The shelter has stated they do Not want 'Weekend Sponsor' animals on the website. An exception can be made for a 'Special Needs' animal.  (Special Needs means, 3 legs, deaf, needs medication, etc..)

If a person writes you inquiring about cost of adoption, there is information on CAP Website.

If a person asks to meet your foster, then Do Not hesitate to ask them questions before arranging to meet them. Questions such as if they have ever had other pets and if so, what happen to their former animals. Will the animals be inside, outside or both. How many hours a day will the animals be alone and where will they be kept. Do all the family members want a pet or only the children. Some people say what they think you want to hear but most answer freely. If you feel a person is compatible then you can arrange a meeting with them either at  CAP Shelter  or at a Petsmart mobile adoption location.. The 'formal' interview and adoption MUST be done by official CAP Adoption Counselor.

If a person makes an inquiry about YOUR foster animal but you feel it is an incorrect match but still think the person would be a good adopter,  ask their permission BEFORE forwarding the person's message to any 'group' posting. Do not send without asking their permission.

Health/Safety Tips
which could save the life of a shelter animal.

NOTE to FOSTER PARENTS - The shelter does NOT contact the foster parents about the majority of animals who becomes ill Especially NOT Dogs who are over 25 pounds and not large breed puppies. These animals are almost always 'Put To Sleep'(PTS).  If a foster parent likes a particular animal(dog or cat) and wants to make CERTAIN that animal is not put to sleep if it becomes ill,  they must phone or go by the shelter and place their name on the upper right hand corner of the animal's yellow laminated cage card and on the animal's paperwork.  If the animal becomes ill, the shelter will call you and you must promptly pick up the animal.
You may place your name on their cage card on the upper right hand corner.
Write the word 'Foster' and then your name.   -  EXAMPLE:   Foster-Sue Jones

Before placing your name with an animal, the shelter policy is to ask a senior staff person first.
If you place your name with an animal who is on the website, NOTIFY the Webmaster after you have listed your name as the animal's foster parent. (Most of the animals on the website do NOT have a foster parent.  Normally if the animal has a foster parent, it will be indicated with the animal's information online.)

NOTE:  If you are able to foster a dog 25 pounds or more,
consider placing  your name on their paperwork and cage card
to protect them. Dogs over 25 pounds ALSO want to live!!!!

Spread the word !!!!

A COLOR FLYER for CAP Shelter can be laminated to make it last forever.
It can be placed in vet offices or any place where it might be beneficial.
Please make sure to ask permission.

Black and White flyers are great for making a larger quantity.
