Teja
We adopted Teja in October of 2007. Before arriving,
we decided that we would adopt a small lap dog.
However, after meeting Teja, a 50 lb, chinese shar pei mix,
we knew that we wouldn't be getting our small lap dog- we
knew that we had met our match. With her energy and loving nature,
Teja has been the perfect addition to our family.

Coco
My name is Coco and I was born on May 22, 2007 - I am almost one year old! I
love taking my parents (Gregg and Debbie) to the dog park (as long as they drive)

and making them give me treats.  My parents also like playing fetch with me!
If I see you on our walks I will say hello!

Hunter
Nicole wrote, "I adopted Hunter [named Larry boy by CAP] in January 2005.
Hunter was put to sleep today due to chronic kidney failure.
He was unexpectedly diagnosed a year ago at the young age of 4, and
we sought treatment from specialists to make certain we kept him happy as long as possible.
Hunter was a great dog--and was spoiled until the very end. Even in his final moments,
he was looking for squirrels and flies to chase! "

Snowy
I am Snowy. I was adopted from Cap at the beginning of March 2008
At the shelter I was called True, but my new family thought Snowy would
be just right for me and I wear my new name with pride. I love to play an
cuddle and I am very gentle with the two young children. My new
family speaks dutch to me and understand them very well. I am so
happy to be here, I do not even want to go outside, even when the
door is wide open, because I don not want to lose my way home again.

Jessica writes, "Pickle (was named Susha) now 3 years old
.... adopted her from CAPs in April of 07.  I had gone to pick
out a rabbit to rescue after Easter, as a present to myself, but when there
was a crowd at the door, I snuck into the dog room to escape it, and this is
the face that was staring at me. .... Pickle is one of the best things that has ever
happened to me. I could not imagine a life without her and her brother
Sebastian (a 1 year old Beagle) in it. She is the most affectionate dog I
have ever had, and I love her uncontrollably. Thank you so much for
introducing this adorable girl to my life."

Friends Sno(on left) and Frankie, enjoying their cat climbing posts.
His dad Kevin sent this note from Frankie,
"Hi, I'm Frankie! I'm the handsome fella on the right. I settled into my new kingdom toward
the end of February.  You can see my sister Sno on the left side of the picture.
She's yet to fully appreciate how wonderful I am. She's working on it.
We have plenty of fun, even if sometimes she is a stick in the mud. I like sneaking up on her.
She's really good for that! I don't mind it when she sneaks up on me either... fair's fair, I say!
OK, I'm through with this siesta... time to see what my human is up to! "

Zelda_WasCalledShelly_3-7-08b_Cr.jpg (15461 bytes)

Zelda (originally called "Shelly" or "Shellie")
Mom Rebecca writes,
I adopted Zelda in November 2005. I remember meeting her for the first time--I sat down and she
got in my lap and insisted on licking my face all over. Her whole body was wiggling with excitement.
She had been in the shelter for two months at that point and was more than ready go home. ....
I'm grateful for the advice CAP gave us about and for the coupon and referrals to obedience classes.
When you adopt a hyper dog, those things can go a long way towards smoothing the transition.
....Although she doesn't have to be crated during the day, it's where she goes to take a nap or to
chew a bone or when she knows she's in trouble. Zelda's a great dog. She is very smart and has lots of
personality. It's been two and a half years since she joined the family, and I'm so glad to have her.

Terrier Finn (full name: Finnegan T. Dog) was adopted by his foster parent Gitta
after having been treated for heartworms. Finn has since learned to tolerate the cat
and been trained to be a therapy dog at training classes with Shannon and his fostermom.
Finn successfully passed his tests and served his "internship" at two different retirement homes
where he interacted with the residents very well.  He is now registered as a therapy dog and
ready to start work. - - When he is not out cheering up humans he enjoys relaxing on the
sofa and going for walks with his mom. He is about a 25 pounds package of love and affection!

Dolly adopted from CAP on/or about December 22, 2007. Dolly is the sweetest girl ever,
she warmed right up to my mom and dad and made herself right at home.
For xmas mom picked out a kitty at CAP.  Dolly sleeps with my parents every night,
and during the day she loves to lie in the window sill sunning.
My parents are so happy with her, she really brightens their days.

Albert_2-25-08_Sm.jpg (7270 bytes)
Albert
Albert just celebrated his first anniversary with us. He left CAPS in December 2006
to become a valued staff member at Unity Funeral Home. It was a perfect match, a
match made in heaven so to speak. Albert ended up at CAPS due to the death of
his owner. So what better place for a 24 pound black cat then a funeral home. He
meets and greets everyone and offers a big soft belly to rub. It is remarkable what a
tremendous stress reliever a big ole friendly cat can be. He now has a fan club
following and he is always surrounded by the paparazzi with cell phone cameras. He
loves the attention and is a complete ham. He has made it possible for some of the
tears to be replaced with smiles and laughter. His name was Albert when he came
from CAPS, but due to his size he was often called Fat Albert. He is much to
valued and dignified for that so we altered it slightly to Prince Albert or a more casual Big Al.

Brownie
Mom Kathleen wrote,
We adopted a 2 year old chocolate lab mix (originally named Brownie)from CAPS in 1996 as first time dog owners.
She started her life with us diagnosed with heartworm, from which she was treated and made a full recovery,
and became my best friend and exercise buddy (walking & bike riding). Over time, her name became "BG" - as in Brownie-Girl.
In 1999, I was diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy. I credit BG for helping me through recovery
as she seemed to know when I was able (and needed) to get out and exercise but simply feeling sorry for myself,
or when I was truly unable. BG passed away on 25 January 2008 - 12 years after we adopted her - she was almost 14 years old.
Thank you CAPS. Without you, I would have never found my best friend -

and she may have never found her "forever home".

Heineken, was called Angus.
Lindsay writes, "I adopted my dog Heineken (then named Angus) in May of 2003 from CAP.
He is such a smart, sweet dog. He loves to be near me as much as possible, curled up in my lap!
He is also one of the best ball fetching dachshunds I have ever seen! He now has a brother,
Gus who is a large brown lab. They look like Mutt and Jeff together.  Heinken would not
have been around for me to adopt if he had not been fostered while he had heartworms.
Thank you for taking care of him! He is still doing great and acting half his age!

I already had adopted Zoey last year and felt that he needed a companion.
The first night was very interesting, but I think it was a good choice and we are all going to be really
happy together. She is very active and teases Zoey and lets him know she can fend for her own."

BraddyMuffin_1-24-08_a_Cr.jpg (20120 bytes)
Muffin(Left) and Bradshaw - Her mom Lisa writes,
"We adopted our short-haired chihuahua, Muffin from CAP in November of 2002.
She was very skiddish at first, but with unlimited amounts of love and
attention she has quickly become the ruler of the house. She sleeps in the
bed, under the covers with her Daddy and doesn't hesitate to wake him in the
middle of the night should she get the munchies and need a doggie snack! I
was living at home at the time, and when I moved out into my own apartment,
my parents refused to let her go with me! I, their only child, was quickly
replaced by their new doggy princess. She recently gained a cousin, my
longhaired chihuahua, Bradshaw, and they have become the best of friends.
Bradshaw loves nothing more but to visit his Grandma and Grandpa on the
weekends and to play with Muffin. She is the sweetest, most well-behaved dog
we could have ever asked for and will forever be a part of our family."

Declan the Yellow Lab
Declan came to the shelter in the summer of 2007 as a very underweight stray
with heartworms.  He was kindly fostered by Jenni and her husband and was adopted
in November by Jenni's father Don who lives in Taos, New Mexico. Declan is now
a big healthy boy and Don says he loves the snow there! They are good
company for each other and do a lot of walking and hiking.
