Citizens for Animal Protection
Weekend Adoption Program
for Sponsor Parent Homes
Note: Sadly for the animals, there are many more
animals
than there are homes for them. The only way to make certain
that the animal is not put to sleep is to be their Weekend Sponsor.

In order to prevent the possibility of euthanasia (humane death) of a pet, Citizens for Animal Protection provides a Weekend Sponsor Program. This program is designed to allow people to keep a dog or cat in their home, during the week and place it for adoption at CAP on the weekend, a time when the most people come to the shelter to adopt. - - If you live in an apartment, you might consider paying to board the animal until it finds a home. (NOTE: CAP does NOT board animals.) NOTE: If you have a Purebred animal you may wish to contact a 'Breed Rescue' Group for that breed. See list at bottom of this page. NOTE: If the animal you are trying to place is a 'former' CAP animal, make CERTAIN to tell the CAP employee this information. Try to remember the original name and number for the animal and approximate date you originally adopted the animal from CAP. Animals must be assessed and all
paperwork provided to CAP Shelter BEFORE entering the program. 2.) Dogs 5 months of age and older must have had a negative heartworm check within the past 30 days. Records from your vet are required, or this may be done by CAP for $10.00 per dog. 3.) Dog/cats 4 months and older must be spayed
or neutered prior to participation in the Weekend Adoption Program. The sponsor
home is fully responsible for this. (For information on 'Low
Cost' Spay and Neuter ... .Click Here.) 4,) Cats with certification of Feline Leukemia test and vaccination within 1 year OR negative feline Leukemia test within 30 days are readily adoptable. Kittens must weigh 2 pounds or more. REQUIREMENTS FOR WEEKEND SPONSOR PROGRAM: 2.) The Weekend Adoption Program lasts from 11:15 AM on Saturday until 5 PM on Sunday. Pets may NOT arrive before 11:00 AM on Saturday unless otherwise approved by the Shelter Manager. Sponsor parents should call the shelter by 4 PM Sunday to inquire about the status of their pets (whether it has been adopted.) A $10.00 per day boarding fee will be charged for sponsor animals left over the appointed time. Please do NOT to leave an animal past the appointed time since there are limited cages and another animal might be put to sleep for lack of a cage. 3.) The sponsor homes should have all paperwork given to CAP prior to bringing the pet in on Saturday morning. |

Program'
Call: (281)-497-0591

Ask to speak to a 'Senior Staff Person'.
If you have a 'PUREBRED' Dog you might consider
contacting the 'Breed Rescue' Group in your area.
NOTE: If the animal is
purebred you can ask that they place a 'listing' with their rescue group
but you should NOT expect them to take on
your responsibility.
IF you are asking them to take your animal, then you
should offer to foster the animal OR
offer a reasonable size financial donation to their group.
