Kristi Hammerle with Girl Scout Troop 12588 held a fundraiser
for CAP at
the Shadowbriar School of Choice in the month of April. Grades third,
fourth, and fifth participated to see which grade could bring in the
most donations. Ms. May (Principal), teachers, staff, and students
participated wholeheartedly and overwhelmed us with their support for
CAP. It was a close race, but the fourth graders came through as the
winning class. Here is a picture of the students that won. This
project not only helped the CAP organization, it also helps Kristi
achieve her Silver Award with Girl Scouts. Thank you Shadowbriar
Bulldogs!!!! Our appreciation can not be expressed enough.

BAN ON ROADSIDE ANIMAL SALES
Violators Face $500 Fine For Each Violation
Harris County Commissioners Court agreed unanimously to outlaw the
unlicensed sale of animals on public property in an effort to discourage
irresponsible
pet breeding and to combat animal overpopulation.
The ban makes it illegal to sell any type of animal on public property or public
rights-of-way in unincorporated Harris County, including shopping center
parking
lots. Violators could be charged with a Class C misdemeanor, punishable by as
much as a $500 fine.
"We may not be able to eliminate unscrupulous animal breeding, but we can certainly
eliminate a lot of the profit motive," said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett. "We
can
also help protect our residents from sick animals and the slick breeders trying to
make a buck off them. Many of these animals are unwanted and ill and end up being
euthanized(killed). That's a tragedy that Commissioners Court is trying to prevent."
The Texas Legislature approved a law earlier this year allowing officials in Harris,
Bexar, Dallas and Tarrant counties to implement such a ban. Dr. Dawn Blackmar,
the county's director of veterinary public health, told court members that the ban
would be an important tool in combating animal disease and overpopulation.

Please, Do NOT Feed the Ducks...
Most of us do not realize that feeding ducks
bread or other items can kill them.
Food
attracts more than just ducks
1.) Feeding ducks attracts rats, pests and predators
that kill ducks and endanger humans.
2.) Rotting food pollutes the water and breeds deadly diseases and parasites...
A single outbreak of Duck Virus Enteritis (caused by artificial
feeding) kills all of the ducks.
Uneaten food quickly forms a deadly mold called Aspergillus;
fatal to ducks without early diagnosis and expensive
treatment.
Avian Botulism (caused by artificial feeding)
kills entire waterfowl populations and hospitalizes people.
Artificially fed ducks emit a parasite causing a condition
in humans called Swimmer's Itch.
3.) Ducks defacate at the site of scattered food or bread, bacteria in feces creates much
higher risks for illness or disease.
4.) Most waterfowl die-offs in the past 10 years have been attributed to
artificial feeding.
5.) Food waste bobbing on the water's edge is ugly.
6.) Ducks that are overfed create dangerous amounts of waste that harms fish and other
animals living in ponds.
7.) Some foods like corn may be OK as a snack for ducks, but fish can't digest it and
die. Seeds cause severe cramping pain in ducks.
Please don't feed the ducks! Ducks Information |

ATTN: WOMEN - Premarin:
Pill of cruelty
The single-most-prescribed drug in the United States is made
from pregnant's horse mare's urine.
Pregnant mares are kept tied up inside
the PMU barn stalls for months on end
while their urine is collected to product this pill.
The stalls are deliberately kept narrow to prevent pregnant
mares from turning or lying down with their legs stretched out for fear the collection
cups will become detached as the urine is "harvested."
And, worse yet, many of these mares get little or no exercise for the six months they are
forced to stand in the barns.
The story is just as tragic for the foals who must
be 'disposed' of.
