CAP Gala 2008 Recap

The annual CAP Celebrity Paws Gala, which was held at the Hilton Americas-Houston hotel on November 22nd, was a runaway hit with two-legged and four-legged fans alike.  The theme this year was "Home for the Holidays" and Houston's "Ten Elite" Honorees' pets competed in style in their very own "Chateaux des Paws" vignettes, designed by Neiman Marcus, The Phoenix Design Team, the Fashionable Events Team,  Elias Events and LC Floral Designs.  Darryl Murchison & Co. created the breathtaking elegant setting for the Ballroom.  According to the Houston Chronicle,

"It’s not often that dogs and cats are the center of attention at the Hilton Americas-Houston. But Saturday night was the exception, when Citizens for Animal Protection brought in the four-legged critters for the annual Celebrity Paws Gala."

The Gala honored the late Roy Huffington  as well as our "Top Ten Elite:" Clair Amonett with Sophie; Michelle Bohreer with Duke; Gwen Joekel with Sandy & Charlie; Shelby Kibodeaux with Toby; Patti Murphy with Dolce; Margaret Reckling with Isabella; Vanessa Riley with Friday; Laura Spalding with Jolly; Monsour Taghdisi with Tyke; and Natalie Wall with Alex.  Dolce, Ms. Murphy's cat, was crowned "Celebrity Pet of the Year."  There were also fabulous and fun silent and live auctions, as well as live music and dancing after a sumptuous dinner.

All proceeds benefitted the homeless cats, dogs, and small animals living at CAP's shelter, waiting anxiously for their new forever homes, as well as CAP's other programs and services, such as our unique FCAP program and humane education.  Thank you to all our gala supporters for your generosity and we hope you enjoyed this magical evening.
