Fight Pet Theft

microchipAccording the Humane Society of the United States, the rate of stolen pets across the US has increased by forty-nine percent. As the economy worsens, people are finding more ways of making money and unfortunately, stealing and selling pets has become more common. Houston is not immune to this alarming new trend.  One way to protect your pets is to have them micro-chipped. This involves a small chip being inserted under the skin, between the pets shoulder blades.

Your information is connected to the chip and is maintained in a national data base.Unlike a collar and tags, micro-chips provide a permanent form of identification that cannot be stolen or altered.  Having your animal(s) micro-chipped is a way to save their lives if ever they were to get lost. Animal shelters, humane organization and veterinarian clinics scan for micro-chips and can immediately call an owner if their pet is found running loose. As micro-chips are entered into a national registry, they can be scanned and your information accessed at any facility across the country. Research facilities are required to scan animals for micro-chips prior to accepting the animal from anyone trying to sell it.
