Story of Soleil

soleilWhile at the park, a CAP foster parent heard a dog barking in the woods who sounded distressed. When the foster parent finally found her, the stray dog, who we now call Soleil, was tangled up in the dead brush, emaciated and obviously having trouble using her back legs. The poor girl got loose from the brush, and althought she didn't seem aggressive, Soleil was scared and unapproachable. The CAP foster parent started putting food out every day for the dog, and a week later they were able to trap her. As the foster parent walked up to the trap, Soleil just watched, then licked the foster's fingers so she was able to receive a sedative that eased her transport to CAP. Soleil's x-rays show that nothing was broken, but there was possibly some nerve damage and the muscles were very weak. She was very nervous at first, but after a day she was already giving kisses to the CAP staff. Soleil is now 'in therapy'; she is walked with a sling under her belly to hold her up as she tries to use her back legs, and her back and legs are massaged to loosen the muscles. She is starting to put a little weight on the weakest leg, though she still has a long way to go, and she is gaining weight.

Soleil is French for sun; her days are going to be sunny from now on, thanks to the love and care she is getting from the CAP staff.
