On Sunday, March 1st, 2015, Kappy will receive the "Humanitarian of the Year" award at the Texas Federation of Animal Care and Societies annual conference in New Braunfels.
Kappy's life long journey working for the protection of animals, began in 1974 when she began as a CAP volunteer, working with others who cared for unwanted animals in their homes. Kappy served as CAP's president for 10 years, during which time, CAP's first animal shelter was opened.
In 1986 the Board of Directors appointed Kappy as CAP's Executive Director. During the past 40 years, Kappy has initiated many "firsts" for the animals in Houston, including the first adoption application and screening program, the first mobile adoption unit, the first Feral Cat, Trap/Neuter/Return Program.
Kappy also served on several state boards, helping to pass numerous legislative bills to further protect the animals of Texas. In addition, she has served on the Animal Control Advisory Board for the City of Houston and currently is on the Advisory Committee for the PIMA Medical Institute - Veterinary Assistant Technician Program.
CAP's Board of Director and staff join together in congratulating Kappy on this well deserved recognition.
