CAP Tackles Hurricane Ike

CAP's shelter was open to accept displaced and injured animals during the time that Hurricane Ike made landfall. Several staff members volunteered their time to literally live at the shelter during and after the hurricane to make sure that the animals were cared for, should any damage to the building occur. It was a miracle for the shelter animals that CAP retained power throughout the pounding storm!

Our phones were answered continuously so we could assist people who needed help with their own pets. CAP also is housing companion pets for families who had to be evacuated.

After Hurricane Ike passed, calls began to pour in reporting lost or found animals in the hope that we could provide some help.

We have taken in numerous needy animals, including baby squirrels and birds who are being bottle-fed by staff and volunteers. With our dedicated staff and volunteers, we have been able to continue to operate our adoption program, and, fortunately, we are finding many wonderful homes. Since the hurricane made landfall, we have received 196 animals and have adopted out 100! We continue to receive calls hourly asking us to shelter more.

As we continue to receive stray animals, CAP's supplies are quickly diminishing. Some of our urgent needs include: canned and dry dog and puppy food, canned and dry kitten and cat food, non-clumping cat litter, paper towels, newspapers, laundry detergent and bleach.

If you prefer to give a cash donation, we will put it to immediate use to buy needed supplies.

On behalf of all the animals...THANK YOU FOR CARING!
