CAP Capital Campaign
About the Capital Campaign

Spurred on by an increased demand for our services, the need for more space and the fact that our old location was leased, CAP undertook a capital campaign in 2006 to build our first permanent home - the Jane Cizik Center. Thanks to many generous donors, hardworking volunteers, staff and PBK architects, we completed the new facility and opened our doors for the first adoptions at the Cizik Center in January 2011.
Each year CAP assists 12,000 to 13,000 homeless, lost and neglected animals. For the last several years, the greater Houston population has grown by more than 100,000 a year. The increase in the population brings both more animals in need as well as more families available to adopt them. Our new space of 21,000 square feet located on three and a half acres park-like acres gives the cats, dogs, and small animals a safe and comfortable home until we can place them with loving families.
In addition to sheltering and adoption services, the new shelter has enabled CAP to expand our other programs, such as humane education, rescuing animals and providing foster care for special needs animals. We now have an Education and Volunteer Center and are conducting volunteer orientations, dog training classes, and providing community outreach services. The new shelter also provides our hardworking and dedicated staff with an employee lounge and kitchen.
The center allows more people to take part in the Weekend Sponsor Adoption Program, which encourages individuals and families, whose lives are transitioning, to showcase their pets for adoption only on the weekend, instead of surrendering them to the shelter. In the center's park, shelter dogs exercise in a protected outdoor space and families can become better acquainted with prospective companions.
A committee of very dedicated volunteers has undertaken the $9 million campaign that includes purchasing the land, construction and move in and a $2 million endowment to help defray the increased costs of operating the larger facility. We are still on our journey to funding CAP's future and hope you will travel with us!

Hello! We're Missy & Rusty, the Capital Campaign Mascots!
"We were the adored canine companions of three homeless men living in a shelter in downtown Houston. When they rescued us, Rusty had been hit by a car. The men pooled their meager resources to take Rusty to a veterinarian who was able to save him, but not his badly mangled front leg. When their shelter lost its lease, the men called every animal agency in the city to try to find someone who could take us and keep us together. Only CAP supported their heartfelt wish to keep us together. Their wish (and ours too!) came true when a wonderful man, visiting CAP's website, was touched by our story. He came to see us at the shelter and it was love at first sight for all of us! We are now a part of his family, enjoying our great new home on several acres in the country. Our story is just one of thousands of success stories of the animals who come through CAP's doors each year."
Hi, I'm Happy, the Feline Mascot!
"I was brought to the shelter, like so many other animals, when my family moved. With open arms, CAP took me in and found me a loving home with a ready-made family of a mom, a ten-year-old child and another kitty! What more could I ask for?!"
