Pet Adoptions @ CAP
Thousands of pets throughout the Houston area have found permanent, caring homes through CAP’s award winning adoption program. Adoptions are the highest priority at CAP. Our staff members are always willing to work with each individual adopter to make that perfect match, both at our shelter and at the PetsMart "Luv-a-Pet" Adoption Center on Hwy 59/First Colony in Sugar Land. The result of these efforts is an adoption rate that is among the highest in the nation!
Pets for Seniors
To enable seniors to acquire a pet and enjoy the many benefits a companion animal provides CAP offers free adoptions of pets over 5 years of age to senior citizens over 60. Please visit our shelter to view and meet the wonderful "senior" animals who are waiting for a second chance at a forever home.
Pet Match
CAP matches prospective pet adopters with shelter animals. Anyone interested in a particular type of dog, cat or other small pet can fill out a Pet Match request card. If and when that type of animal finds refuge in our shelter, our staff and our volunteer Pet Match Coordinator will try to make the purr-fect match! Mobile Adoptions
Citizens for Animal Protection (CAP) is constantly exploring opportunities to find more lifelong families for our shelter’s homeless pets. To this end, CAP joined the PetSmart Adoption Program in 1992. PetSmart created this program to help increase adoptions. Since PetSmart does not sell dogs or cats, the company provides an adoption center area in each of its stores where adoption partner organizations can bring their homeless pets to find forever adoptive families.
Each day, a CAP adoption counselor chooses healthy, friendly dogs and cats from the CAP shelter, and transports these pets to the Sugar Land PetSmart adoption center. Since 1992 CAP has adopted over 16,000 dogs and cats through the PetSmart Luv-a-Pet Centers and other locations around the Houston area. This program has been a phenomenal success for CAP, not only increasing adoptions of our sheltered animals, but serving to promote spaying/neutering, provide information on pet care, generate donations and motivate volunteer applicants.
